1883
NO NUMERALS

Beginning on October 1, 1883, the GPO began to release their stamps in the modern traditional method without any overprints at all. Stamps used in this manner were so used into 1884 until the end of this issue and beyond. Occasionally these stamps received a district name, but it is believed that it was no longer necessary for the postmaster to apply his office name. The practice eventually was discontinued and, with the exception of a few occasions where the Medallion and Large Numeral stamps received district names, never to be used again in Mexico.
